My only objection (contention?) with the engagement part of things is that you don’t always see it unless you’ve built up a following by doing the engagement yourself. People don’t care about taking time out to read work by a “no one" without followers or hundreds/thousands of claps. Unless the avalanche is started, they won’t join in.
And that’s frustrating for a writer wondering if they’re worth the words they string together. Even if they meet the other two criteria. Because — face it — the doubt lingers no matter how often you see signs. If you ARE an accomplished writer, anyway. Imposter syndrome is difficult to shake.
