I never wanted children. And people kept telling me, "Wait. You'll meet the right man and change your mind." (What a male presence has to do with it, I never understood) It irritated me that they couldn't respect my decision. After all, I didn't go around telling them they'd made a mistake by having kids.
Then I started having problems. And I needed to make a call on whether or not to have a hysterectomy. Wasn't a difficult choice. But even with years (and pages) of medical backing, they STILL told me to reconsider. What if I met that man? I told them to back out of my life.
Few years later, I met a wonderful man. And a brief panic set in. Would he walk away when he found out I couldn't have children (and still didn't want them)? Nope. Hd didn't either. Guess everyone was wrong.
People need to allow women to make up their own minds. Not everyone wants to be a mom. And that's okay. The world needs awesome aunts, too.
